My approach to health and healing is holistic; meaning that I understand all areas of your life, body, mind, and spirit are connected and so I look to all of them as we approach your transformation. This is so you can achieve the best possible health and wellness by gaining greater balance in life. I believe our nourishment and fulfillment comes from not only what food we eat but from all the other factors of our lives including, our relationships, work/careers, physical activity and, spirituality. I work with my clients to create a healthier life in a way that is flexible and rewarding based on these principles.
Part of what makes the process of improving our health so daunting is that it seems very complex. In reality, success doesn't have to be complicated at all. It doesn’t require massive changes to one's life to see shifts that result in a new approach to a way of living. I believe that successful transformation for your life, in all of its facets, is based on sustainable, practical, incremental change with personalized support and guidance.
If you want to eat better, you might add one serving of leafy greens per day. If you want to have more energy, you might want to adjust your bedtime or take a short walk during your day. Simple, sustainable, and practical. On the surface, it feels like such a small change that there is no way it can have an impact. However, it becomes clear very quickly that when we develop complex, overwhelming strategies for changing our lifestyles, we quickly become frustrated, discouraged, and return to old habits. This is made even worse by the fact that when feel defeated or hopeless and believe that our well-being is in a static state and cannot be impacted, we accept poor outcomes with resigned dissatisfaction.
Whether your change is physical, mental, or spiritual it should be simple, sustainable and practical. Utilizing these core characteristics, and in partnership with my clients, I can pinpoint changes that you will create your new way of living. Once all four of those characteristics have been met, you have change that will last.
These small changes may not seem like much, but they become individual building blocks that will quickly assemble themselves into total health and wellness transformation. Simply put; instead of trying to build a healthy structure from one solid piece of material, constantly chipping away, shaping, restricting, and struggling, we are assembling the individual pieces into what will be a much stronger, and happier, structure. Simple concepts like “crowding out” unhealthy choices by focusing on adding in what's more nourishing to deconstruct unhealthy choices helps to understand their meanings that will quickly lead to a total transformation that not only occurs but lasts throughout your life.
Just as in creating greater health and wellness, I offer a holistic approach to grief. I focus on the past, the present, and the future and comprehend that in addition to the loss, that our culture, our communities, our spirituality and our beliefs impact our experience with grief.
Connection is essential to all facets of our health and wellbeing. Grief can be both traumatic and transformative. Those people in grief are not broken so they don't need to be fixed. In providing the necessary support and guidance for those in grief there must be an individualized approach that understands there is no timeline to grief and know there is no cure for it. A grieving person needs a safe and confidential space where there is reflection and guidance to help them move towards creating a life that honors their loved ones. Not only have I seen this reflected in the lives of my clients but, in my own bereavement.
